One thing I figured out after a little frustration is that the drop down menu JS is not required. If you don't care about support for IE6 (I don't), you can disable the JS that controls the menus completely, then you won't have to deal with trying to override those styles, instead you can just work out a pure CSS solution.

function childtheme_override_head_scripts() { // silence! }

marknolan on "Keep superfish Submenu Ope" http://forums.themeshaper.com/topic/keep-superfish-submenu-ope#post-27698 Sun, 09 Dec 2012 21:14:47 +0000 marknolan 27698@http://forums.themeshaper.com/
I have a "normal" horizontal superfish navigation. The Only thing is that I would like to keep the Subitems open if I'm on one of the parents children.
Pure CSS seems to get overriden by JS. I'm sure there must be an easy way with filtering the arguments and replacing with custom SF Args. Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Mark
helgatheviking on "Dropdown Menu not showing in IE" http://forums.themeshaper.com/topic/dropdown-menu-not-showing-in-ie-does-it-work-on-iphone#post-26037 Tue, 20 Mar 2012 23:46:24 +0000 helgatheviking 26037@http://forums.themeshaper.com/
wish i had thought to mention that. i ran across a comment in my stylesheet about how filter kills the drop-downs somehow. eff IE. seriously hate that shit.
hlynnt on "Dropdown Menu not showing in IE" http://forums.themeshaper.com/topic/dropdown-menu-not-showing-in-ie-does-it-work-on-iphone#post-26036 Tue, 20 Mar 2012 22:41:31 +0000 hlynnt 26036@http://forums.themeshaper.com/
Found it!

filter: progid :DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(GradientType=0, startColorstr=#d7eef8, endColorstr=#ebf6fb);
-ms-filter: "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient (GradientType=0, startColorstr=#d7eef8, endColorstr=#ebf6fb)";
background-color: #d7eef8;
background-image: url(../images/fallback-gradient.png);
background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, 0% 0%, 0% 100%, from(#d7eef8), to(#ebf6fb));
background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, #d7eef8, #ebf6fb);
background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(top, #d7eef8, #ebf6fb);
background-image: -ms-linear-gradient(top, #d7eef8, #ebf6fb);
background-image: -o-linear-gradient(top, #d7eef8, #ebf6fb);

I was using this to create a gradient background for #header. I am on a mac, but I can't see it. These pages look exactly the same to me in both Firefox (10.0.2), Safari (5.0.5) and Chrome (17.0.963). Even when resizing the window, the fonts look crisp and legible.

I am still using Leopard though. And both
-webkit-font-smoothing: subpixel-antialiased;
and
-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased;
look the same, for example on the page http://files.christophzillgens.com/webkit-font-smoothing.html . The two right columns are not showing a difference at all, unlike the screenshots on the maxvoltar.com page.

Is it possible that this has less to do with webkit but more with the OS? Are you using Lion or Snow Leopard? Is it possible that there is some kind of special font hinting features/setting in Lion that are messing things up?
nimmolo on "In Thematic, but not in Coraline, fonts are displaying weird in Webkit" http://forums.themeshaper.com/topic/in-thematic-but-not-in-coraline-fonts-are-displaying-weird-in-webkit#post-25886 Tue, 13 Mar 2012 07:02:42 +0000 nimmolo 25886@http://forums.themeshaper.com/
Update 3 - One full hour of searching stackoverflow threads about webkit font smoothing weirdness and NONE of the proposed CSS solutions, from shadows to strokes, worked.
