(sad, really) The first thing to check is that in your CSS comment header you referenced the parent theme using only lowercase letters.

In my case, the issue was that Thematic originally installed to my directory in this folder: "thematic.0.9.7.7", which contained the "thematic" folder. So to get it to work, in the CSS header I had to reference the theme like this:

Theme: thematic.0.9.7.7/thematic

Hope this saves someone else the headache.
xxxevilgrinxxx on "How To Change The Look of Thematic With a WordPress Child Theme" http://forums.themeshaper.com/topic/how-to-change-the-look-of-thematic-with-a-wordpress-child-theme/page/2#post-18410 Sun, 16 Jan 2011 19:38:55 +0000 xxxevilgrinxxx 18410@http://forums.themeshaper.com/
The "default.css" file shouldn't be touched at all. The rest is done within your child theme's CSS file. Use the different images as background for #header, #main and #footer. You might need to adjust the settings for margin and padding.

Cheers,

Chris
peteremil on "How To Change The Look of Thematic With a WordPress Child Theme" http://forums.themeshaper.com/topic/how-to-change-the-look-of-thematic-with-a-wordpress-child-theme#post-4119 Thu, 28 May 2009 10:49:24 +0000 peteremil 4119@http://forums.themeshaper.com/
Hi There

I have a problem with this simple step.
