ThemeShaper Forums Topic: (Howto) Menu Label Different from Page title? http://forums.themeshaper.com/ Help In Shaping WordPress Themes en Sun, 24 May 2015 03:02:08 +0000 demetris on "(Howto) Menu Label Different from Page title?" http://forums.themeshaper.com/topic/howto-menu-label-different-from-page-title#post-2028 Fri, 06 Mar 2009 20:39:01 +0000 demetris 2028@http://forums.themeshaper.com/
You are welcome! Page Menu Editor is one of my favourite plugins.

I don’t change page titles (too much hassle), but I can’t stand the title attribute being the same as the anchor text. I doesn’t make any sense and it is also annoying. Either use the title attribute properly or don’t use it at all! :-)
jimg on "(Howto) Menu Label Different from Page title?" http://forums.themeshaper.com/topic/howto-menu-label-different-from-page-title#post-2027 Fri, 06 Mar 2009 20:29:54 +0000 jimg 2027@http://forums.themeshaper.com/
Thanks for the suggestion - I did use that and find it works ok. Guess I'll keep with this for now.
demetris on "(Howto) Menu Label Different from Page title?" http://forums.themeshaper.com/topic/howto-menu-label-different-from-page-title#post-2026 Fri, 06 Mar 2009 20:24:34 +0000 demetris 2026@http://forums.themeshaper.com/
The plugin Page Menu Editor seems to work OK with Thematic 0.9.

A demo I just made: http://op109.net/sandpit

A quick howto: http://op111.net/59

Plugin homepage: http://www.stuffbysarah.net/blog/wordpress-plugins/page-menu-editor/

Cheers,

dk
jimg on "(Howto) Menu Label Different from Page title?" http://forums.themeshaper.com/topic/howto-menu-label-different-from-page-title#post-2022 Fri, 06 Mar 2009 18:08:44 +0000 jimg 2022@http://forums.themeshaper.com/
I'd like to have the home page have a menu title of "Home" and a different page title "What we can do for you". There are plugs for this sort of thing, but was wondering if there was a more elegant way of doing this in a child theme?

See http://cssglobe.com/post/3910/wordpress-hack-bulletproof-page-menu-labels where he suggests hacking classes.php and the class Walker.php to add a function code called menutext.

Sounded good - but I don't want to violate the first rule of child templates - no core hacking. In the comments section there is a link ( http://davidmichaelthompson.com/?p=43) where someone took this concept and created a plugin, but when I ran it in thematic & added "home" as recommended - all the menu and page titles changed to "home" :(
