Hi, I previously followed an excellent tutorial for theming the thematic theme about 1.5 yrs ago. Theming with the template files etc.

Now I download the latest and I find myself confused. I really desire a lot of control over the html. I want to use a child theme because it seems like a sensible thing to do but do I still modify index.php files and other such files in the child theme by copying them in.

I have looked at a lot of tutorial and it seems like I should only be overriding stuff using the functions.php in my child theme and overriding the css?

Basically I know it is a powerful framework, but I'm getting frustrated right from the off that it seems overcomplicating things. It seems difficult to be able to decipher what is relevant and what is out of date.

Can anyone point me to the most important and relevant theming tutorials for the thematic framework.

Hi, that is a good link, but do you have anything a little more in depth? Should I really not touch the thematic parent theme at all?

Perhaps I would be better off using the sandbox or something

  3. no you should not touch the thematic parent files. that would defeat the entire purpose of using a framework to build 'child' themes. i havent found anything you can't do w/ functions and filters.

the guide and the blog have more info

  4. .. just in case that you find something that can't be done with functions and filters, let us know what you're looking for. I'm pretty sure that we can either help with the existing functions and filters or we can integrate something to solve the problem.

Ok, if the request makes sense, but 'til now I can't remember a request that was completely rejected.
