  1. Hi,
does anyone have any experience, suggestions or recommendations with working with a site that uses a lot of for want of a better word, video?

  2. i started building a thematic child theme for video. but have since abandoned the project.
any deadlines for your new project?

  3. i built (which never got used sadly) to use some video. i've also since done something for a client where some jquery auto-adjusts the width of the video. if the plagueround were actually more than a test site i'd probably go back and add that bit. but both sites just embed video (one using p75 easy video and the other with Viper's quick tags)... neither do anything special.

very true. creative types, creative budgets.

are you looking to self host the videos, or just use vimeo or youtube?

i've done a lot of work with the api's for the above mentioned services.

  7. That's a good question—I just saw here that youtube has HD available What do you think has the best compression options? Also I wonder about ownership issues with YT and Vimeo, since his work is technically owned by the producers and not him.

  8. i'm useless regarding legal stuff.

i much prefer how vimeo vids look, but, youtube vids (in my experience) always respond better. you can implement jquery or settings via api to create a chromeless youtube vid, looks better.

if you were going to self host, i'd have a go at html5 video.

is it a portal for all vids, or is the plan to have notes, comments, likes, etc to accompany the videos.

  9. the vimeo look is waaaay sleeker imo as well, but youtube is what the 2nd or 3rd most popular site on the internet... so that has advantages too. i toyed with the youtube API and its chromeless player and know that you can change quite a bit of the look of the controls with the exception of that giant, stupid, ugly PLAY button that appears on all youtube vids. annoying.

  10. actually that only floats a div on top of the existing play button- which means you can't use a small, neat button or put the play button on the bottom left like Vimeo does, b/c it has to be big enough to cover up the one you can't get rid of.

  11. ah. so theres no rid of the evil button. i suppose its not a bad compromise tho.

  12. If it was self-hosted, the storage would be huge, but the traffic would probably be light (barring some fortuitous review/link). So if he went that route do you think he would need more than basic hosting?

@JonnyJaniero the site would be the video equivalent of a portfolio site, with emphasis on visual quality and smooth playback.

I hate that button too @helgatheviking, it's like a stick in the eyeball.

  13. would the project need an accompanying blog?

i've had a client request, who loves vimeo, wants to pull in his latest vimeo videos, with a sideblog, all under his own domain.

had a play around with the vimeo api last night, its coming along nicely. shouldn't take long.

all video thumbnails/video info is pulled in, plus other data.
the videos are gridded, on click, the lovely looking vimeo vid pops up in a lightbox.

    its basically a page template.

the only drawbacks, it can only import a max of 60 vids (over 3 pages), but that said, its only supposed to be a holding for his latest videos anyway so for his site, we intend to only show 20 and direct to vimeo directly to see everything.

if this may be of any use to you, should be done in a week or so.

What about shadowbox as an option? It's very flexible and centers navigation in one spot.

I used it for a DP I know:
