Okay, a really nooby question here.

I wanted to modify the thematic sidebar.php file, so I copied it into my own child theme (which I took over from the Boumatic theme) and I'm getting this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function thematic_abovemainasides() in /home/.../wp-content/themes/meditatiehof/sidebar.php on line 1

I thought once you copied a parent theme's file into your child theme that that was all there was to it, but I'm getting the feeling I'm doing something wrong.

UPDATE: I guess I should tell you what I'm trying to do in case there's a better way. I don't actually want any sidebars. I want to use that real estate for the main content.

  2. Hi,

remove the sidebar.php from your child theme's directory. Take a look at How to remove the sidebar from a certain page?. This should give you the basics how to remove the sidebar and the needed additional changes for your style.css.

    Cheers,

    Chris
