  1. Hi!
I'm having fun with Thematic since a week. I actually have to admit, it did not really speed up my development time. I'm still not sure that it's a good solution for everything a designer would like to do. There are part of the original CSS that are doubled, and the typography is mixed and spread in more CSS files.

Apart this, that can be due by just my insufficient knowledge, I'm having a bit of hard time to shape the child theme in a way that my customer wants. No text, not post title in the home, category pages with thumbnails and description, post page with galleries, and more...

...so, I would like to ask you your opinions and experiences. I guess Thematic is a very stable and good framework. But I'm starting to be afraid that for what I do need, for my layouts, it's just to code myself my theme with all the freedom I need to be fast and sure of the control on the CSS.

What do you think? Are you really able to get out from a Thematic's child theme everything you would like? Even the oddest? :)

My best regard and wishing you a wonderful day!

yep, so far i have been able to build even the most complex sites with thematic.

it's all about knowledge, the more you have the more you can get in there and really customize and completely change things.

with the average site i do i can usually have the bulk of it done in just a couple of hours. it reduces my development time by many days.

thematics default typography styles is very clean and neutral, so it's great for all types of sites with minimal tweaking.

you won't get fantastic results with thematic only after a week, it takes time to learn. i have been using it for about a year, and still learn something new everyday by reading and posting on this forum.

    have fun...J

  3. But, for instance, can you use Thematic as a base for a news magazine, that usually implements several loops in the same page? In this case, have you to code a page template in substitution of the original one in the mother theme (if I can use this definition)?

I'm just trying to figure out if Thematic really suits my purposes. Probably yes, just I've surely to explore more. But when you've a timeline to respect, it's not so easy to dedicate days and efforts in something like Thematic.

For sure in the last week I've learn lots of news stuffs about Wordpress in general, and this's very good ;)

For curiosity, may you point me to a very complex project realized with Thematic, just to have an idea about till where you can push forward?

    Ciao!

if you want say a magazine style home page, then you make a new page template (easy just duplicate page.php from thematic, add the template code to the top, call it page-home.php and put it in your child theme.

so now you have a new page template that you can do anything you like with.

so get rid of anything you don't need, and custom build your new page the way you like, i have done this before using multiple loops, just like you want to do.

and of cause add the new styles needed to your child theme style.css

when you set up your wordpress site, create a page called home, with the template of page-home.php, and then in settings set home as your home page.

ps, where did you get your avatar, i see of lot of cool cartoon faced avatars around these days.
