    Hi, I'd like to be able to change the colors on the dashboard to something strikingly different (so that I don't edit the wrong site, when I am working on more than one site simultaneously).

    I searched the forums without luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction? The tips I found about adding something to functions.php break the site.

    and "The tips I found about adding something to functions.php break the site." doesn't tell us what you tried. when stuff in your functions.php "breaks the site" it is usually b/c of a parse error.... a " or ; or ( in the wrong place

    Thanks for the link. Yes, I should have thought that someone would make a plugin for this.

    This site suggested the following code which caused problems.

    function custom_colors() {
       echo '<style type="text/css">#wphead{background:#069}</style>';
    }

    add_action('admin_head', 'custom_colors');

  4. that bit of code doesn't cause any problems on my site. just turns the #wphead div blue like it is supposed to. you might have errors in other places.

    try the debug trick here:
