I would like to ask for some advice about creating a CMS site with Thematic. Basically I already designed the site via a child theme, but now I'm very confused about the content structure options, and that which one is the best to use with Thematic.

My goal is to build a site that contains translations of articles and essays in two or three separate categories – without commenting. And I would like to present this content by a static framework of descriptive pages. Besides this the site should also contain a separate blog for personal experiences and other stuff - with commenting.

But with the new features of WordPress 3.0 I just feel even more confused... Should I use custom post types and/or custom taxanomies for the main content (to separate it from the blog posts)? Which is the easier to implement with Thematic? Which is the better in terms of having a clear permalink structure?

I'm really worried about making the wrong choice and then having to do a lot of extra work for redesigning the content and possibly even the permalink structure... I don't have much experience with CMS use, so any advice would be highly appreciated.

  2. To keep your articles separated from the blog, custom Taxonomies would be the better long-term approach IMO. If you are looking to create a different look/feel for the different article pages and blog pages, you'd have a pretty decent work-load just doing it with categories. Using custom Tax won't be any more work, really, and will give you some pretty powerful flexibility as the site grows.
