    Hello all :)

    I'm a beginner level user trying to build a Thematic child theme for my site. The
    site's design is relatively simple, yet I've encountered a problem while tweaking
    the font settings.

    Basically, I noticed that default.css and typography.css share a number of selectors,
    some of which have conflicting values, and because both are imported into style.css,
    I have trouble understanding what the function of typography.css is, and which one's
    settings are given priority, if any at all.

    A quick example to illustrate -

    typography.css:
    body, input, textarea {
    color:#000;
    font: 12px Arial,sans-serif;
    line-height:18px;
    }

    default.css:
    body, input, textarea {
    font: 15px Georgia,serif;
    line-height:22px;
    }

    Please excuse me if the reason is painfully obvious, but I can't seem to find a
    clear answer anywhere. I'm sure there's a reason for this, would anyone mind
    elaborating?

    Thanks

  2. I think the typography one is a widely used set of styles based on a grid framework, and works as the fallback setting. The default defines the basic layout used for the particular look of thematic basic template. The default should override the typography one based on the order it loads.

    generally, the last one loaded is the one that takes effect.

    I copy the default into my main style file when making significant changes to a theme.

    Hey jrobben

    Ah, that makes sense then. My knowledge of CSS is very patchy, so
    I wasn't sure whether the order had any effect. In that case, I'll simply
    focus my attention on default.css.

    Thanks for the reply :D
