    Hi all! I'm not new to web design, but I'm new to customizing up a thematic interface.

    I'm trying to make a background with a top and bottom edge. I think this image will better illustrate what I'm trying to do.

    I assume the idea is to make 3 divs. Each will use one of the image slices as a background. The top and bottom sections will have a higher z-index so they're over the background

    I want to combine the 3 slices to create the sidebar background, but honestly, I get all lost in the php functions. Can anyone point me to which section (function?) I should be modifying?

    Taking a glimpse at a snapshot of my old site might help as well. See the content boxes down the right side?

    See the background images that contain the content?

    If anyone can help, I'll be eternally grateful! Thanks much.

  2. subtech,

    The Early Morning Thematic Child Theme does exactly what you are looking for!

    It uses:

    '// ---------- Add The Top and Bottom parts of the main div
    function main_top(){
    echo '<div id="main_top"></div>';
    }
    add_action('thematic_belowheader', 'main_top');

    function main_bottom(){
    echo '<div id="main_bottom"></div>';
    }
    add_action('thematic_abovefooter', 'main_bottom');'

    On the functions.php file.

    You may try that code or download it and take a look at it's function.php file and styles.css to see how it was done.

    I hope this helps!
