    I'm shocked!

Visiting I found that the any mention of the Thematic theme has been scraped as if it never existed. There is a link to download thematic but that's about it. The home of thematic turns out, is now the "Home of the Auttomatic Theme Team" and there is only talk about themes.

There is no explanation from Ian Stewart as to what happened to thematic or a link redirecting thematic users. The link to this forum has been scraped too.

    Has thematic been terminated?

Should we now start scrambling to find a new framework for our childthemes?

Would somebody please explain what is going on and where will this leave the thematic users?

    I will greatly appreciate it.

  2. Pictrix et all....

I don't purport to have the final say or even any sort of official word, but I did ask Ian via Twitter where Thematic was going and he responded that Thematic would find its new home at Chris' site. I have no idea when this will be happening. Last I heard from Gene, they were shooting to have something up by this past weekend... which doesn't look to have happened (from our view anyway). I would love to have an official announcement from Chris or Gene, but I am fairly certain that Thematic isn't dead.

I am very relieved and glad to hear Thematic is a continuing project. I was dismayed when I didn't find the usual content at

    I'll eagerly await any updates.

Thanks Helgatheviking and Chris for your prompt response. I can breathe more easily now!

  5. ThemeShaper is the official Automattic Theme Team blog now, and therefore, we are going to move Thematic, the wiki, and the forums to a new domain. Gene and I are currently discussing which domain to use.

Btw., congratulations to Gene, who is our new Lead Developer :)

Gene and I will administrate these new sites. This includes assigning contributors, authors and moderators, and all site related maintenance tasks.

Depending on the domain, the wiki could start next week. This includes a new structure.

The forums could take a week longer. We still need to do some tests, to ensure that we get the user data and all entries over to the new forums. This includes the upgrade to the latest bbPress version.

We will keep you updated during the next days.

PS.: I will move to our new apartment on Friday, therefore, I might be more or less off-line for the weekend and my updates might be very brief.

  7. Thematic is very much alive :) It's just in transition at the moment. Sorry for the inconvenience. We're currently working on the migration to a new domain and host. Thanks for your patience.

Wow, was just about to post a question if the "child theme" concept is being abandoned all together when i found this post.

I noticed theme hybrid sort of scraped child themes (released a prototype theme) and is now pushing for parent themes, then all talk of child themes disappeared from themeshaper (and a new release of the toolbox theme).

Also, didn't adopt the whole child theme thingy (went with premium themes instead) so it got me thinking.........
