    Hello everyone, I’ve just installed WordPress 2.6 and I am currently using Thematic which is very nice. I don’t know my way around stylesheets and such, so I’m looking for a little help.

    Basically I want to resize things if that is possible.

    e.g.
    The left column content takes up 540px, I want to increase the width to 700px.

    Also, the right column is 300px, I want to move this to the right. Will decreasing the size of this make it go further to the right? It appears about a third of the space in this column is blank.

    I’ve made an image so as to give a better idea of what I’m talking about :)

    Any help will be appreciated.

  2. Take a look at the sample stylesheets in library > layouts. They'll give you an idea of how to make a sidebar on the left side and how to move it around.

    And while you're moving things around …

    #content {background:orange;}
    .main-aside {background:green;}

    will give you an idea of what you're moving around.

    Thanks Ian, that worked great.

    May I also suggest to anybody new to this kind of thing like me to use Firebug. It’s an add-on for Firefox. Using the inspect option you can click on any part of Thematic (or an part of any site) and it will pick out the source code and CSS style sheets for which you can change any value locally in an instant. It really helped me out anyway :)

    Here is the link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1843

    Thanks again!

    I was getting into the swing of things yesterday when I thought it would be best to work on a child theme for Thematic.

    I think I done what was said in the guide, I created a directory Themes > thematic_child. And in that I put the style.css with the different header but when I went to the site it was all messed up. I tried making a style.css with just the new header info and instead of using the contents of the other document just put this comment in @import url('../thematic/style.css'); but then it messed up more :) Then I tried adding the functions.php to the thematic_child folder and it came up with an error about a clash so I deleted that command and it was back to the previous messed up version.

    Here is what I’m looking at now www.scarpariso.com Can anybody tell me what I’ve done wrong?

    Thanks :)
