  1. Hi!

Lets see if I can formulate myself: I would like to test a custom theme with existing data I have in my blog/website (I actually use Wordpress more as a CMS than a blog).

In other words, instead of testing with test info that is available on the net I'd prefer "real" content.
I would have my test WP installed on the same server as the live blog (simply installing it in another directory).

Would it be possible that without copying/duplicating the database of Blog A to Blog B, to simply "snatch" the content in some way? If possible it would include categories as well.

I think the simplest approach is to 'move/copy' blog A to blog B. I did this same exercise a month ago and other than a 'gotcha' where I had to fix a URL or path in phpMyAdmin, I had it done and working in an hour at the most - including finding the two or three tiny boo-boos. The problem was with path names for the uploads in Media Library.

    I use the wp-db-backup backup plug-in anyway: http://austinmatzko.com/wordpress-plugins/wp-db-backup/

    I followed this guide:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#Moving_WordPress_to_a_New_Server

In my case I restored using the MySQL 'mysqldump.exe' as it was on my own server.

I'll be interested to hear if there are other suggestions.

    Good Luck

  3. I also use the wp-db-backup plugin, so I guess I'll try your method as soon as I can.

    Thanks.

  4. Have you considered simply using the wp-admin>tools>export and import functions.

That would be the absolute easiest way to "snatch" the content only
