Now that I have my Thematic image menu working (thanks to helgatheviking at http://forums.themeshaper.com/topic/thematic-menus-demystified-1?replies=25#post-16003) how do I display my Post Category content on a specific Page in that menu?

For example, if one of my menu items is 'blog' I need to create a page called 'blog' and a template for it called 'page-blog.php'. Now I have a Category and a couple of posts and I want to use only the 'blog' page to display them. Can't find where the code is to do this.

  2. You should be able to use the 3.0 menu feature to add a link to a specific category. you don't necessarily need a page w/ a template.

depending on your permalinks, your link might look something like:
    www.mysite.com/categories/bacon

and that archive will show all the posts in the Bacon category. you can edit the way this looks by editing or overriding the category loop (which can be seen and copied from content-extensions.php in the library/extensions folder of thematic)

Thanks for the speedy responses. You guys are the greatest!!! I tried Gene's code and it works beautifully.

However, I might try the helga route for sub page categories. I don't understand how I can apply a link from the Menu to a post page. I'm using the permalinks with names /%postname%/ the way you show it.

I don't see anywhere in the Menu Categories to add URLs. Is there an article on this somewhere?

  5. i guess i am not 100% clear on what you are trying to do. but if you go to your menus page, you can click on "screen options" up in the top right of the screen. you can then toggle on/off lists of categories, pages, posts, etc as things that you can select from to add to the menu.

I see that, but it doesn't help with my url issues. Maybe I can explain it this way. Let's say I have 3 main pages (actually there's more but I'm trying to keep it simple) these are all images:

    home - food - wine

When I click on wine I want to see a list of my wine Categories and a brief description with a link to take you to red wine posts

    - wine
    -- red
    -- white

So the "wine" menu image and link has to be www.mysite.com/wine - which it is thanks to your menu code. Now if I click the 'red' link in the content of the wine page I don't mind if it goes to www.mysite.com/wine/red or even www.mysite.com/category/red but I'm confused as to how to actually give my 'red' posts the URL www.mysite.com/wine/red which will host it on that webpage with my site's top navigation template. If I edit the post permalink I can only add one level like www.mysite.com/wine/ but not www.mysite.com/wine/red

  7. if you are using Month and name permalinks then categories looks like

    mysite.com/category/wine
    mysite.com/category/wine/red/

in the permalinks options you can change what goes in the place of category.. you could use 'topics' or something similar.

Thanks for the hint! Actually I used this and it works perfectly

    /%category%/%postname%/

along with the Custom Post Template http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-post-template/ which creates a drop down of post templates to choose from, like page templates.
