i'm looking to do something similar to this Thematic site:
    http://sloweye.net/

-a clean home page (with flash) that has none of the blog elements on the sides
    yet
-"studio notes" and "about" portions of the site that are more blog-like, but they're also different than each other

Are these separate installations of thematic (or in the case of the home page, not thematic at all?)

Or is this all possible with one installation, by editing the styles and functions?

    Thanks for your help

  2. Hey,

.. could you give me some more details?

The clean homepage without the sidebars and a flash only is possible (handled by WordPress - static page) ..

'Studio Notes' is a typical blog index page .. with some modifications needed for entry-meta and entry-utility .. can be done in your functions.php using filters.

'About' is a page with subpages .. nothing special except of the good styling :-)

It's done by a typical Thematic installation and a separate child theme handling the whole design of this web site.

    Cheers,

    Chris

    Thanks for responding.

Well, I've spent a couple of days playing with Thematic and CSS for the first time, and I guess I just don't know much. I couldn't figure out how to make different pages look different!

Good to hear it's possible. I won't attempt to forum-question my way out ignorance, but maybe you could give me a pointer on where do I start if I want to make my WP static home page look different than the rest of my blog?

    Cheers,
    Seho

  4. Basically it involves creating a Custom Page Template and setting the Static Home Page to use that template. It's what I'm doing for the Theme Store and the ThemeShaper home page. Read How I Used A Custom Page Template To Redesign My Blog The Smart Way for some more info.
