    Hi there!

I installed Thematic (and made some changes as a child theme) and I'd like it to show the German version in the frontend. My basic Wordpress install is German (German language files in /wp-content/languages), so the backend is already German and Wordpress default theme has a German frontend, too. I downloaded the German .po and .mo files for Thematic from the Google repository and put them in the Thematic folder (/wp-content/themes/thematic). Still, no German version in the frontend. So, how can I get the localization files to work correctly? Do I have to make any changes in the header or something like that?

    Thanks for your help!

  4. Just send a fix over to Ian, which resolves this issue. If you can't wait:

Change line 60 in comments.php (I'm using the SVN version of Thematic) from:

    <h3><?php comment_form_title( 'Post a Comment', 'Post a Reply to %s'); ?></h3>

    to:

    <h3><?php comment_form_title( __('Post a Comment', 'thematic'), __('Post a Reply to %s', 'thematic') ); ?></h3>

    Cheers

  5. Sorry to bring this topic back up, but it describes my problem very well.

I've checked out the latest SVN revision (r417) of Thematic in the /themes/ folder of my local WP install and enabled it in the admin. Despite my brand new French translation, the blog is entirely in English and I cannot see my translations anywhere (front end or back end).

I have also tried changing the locale to de_DE in wp-config.php to see if Chris's German version was working, but everything remained in English.

Have I missed something? I'm using Tortoise SVN on Windows XP with a recent version of WAMP Server, and an up-to-date WP 2.7.1.

    Thanks for your help!

  6. All the translation files have moved to library/languages/. It should work. The German version has been working for Chris.

  7. @Florent .. seems to be a problem with your installation .. I did the same check here, switched to fr_FR and I can see your translation.

  8. Let me check one more thing ...

    Posted 10 years ago #
  9. @Florent .. please check Revision 418

  10. One slash to much in the directory settings for the text domain .. strange that both settings are working as expected.

  11. Chris, thanks for your help, but I'm sorry to report that it still isn't working. I made the de_DE test again and I'm still stuck with the English version.

Can you give me a few pointers of things to look for? I know PHP, but it's the first time I really dig into WP and themes...

    Thanks!

  12. Looking a little deeper into the problem, it seems that MO files are not readable: in the load_textdomain() function, the test if ( is_readable($mofile)) at line 261 of /wp-includes/l10n.php is failing.

I can't seem to find the reason for that...

  13. Got it! My theme folder wasn't named '/thematic/', but 'thematic_svn/', and this allowed me to detect a bug!

I changed the $path variable passed to the load_theme_textdomain() function, using the THEMELIB constant rather than rebuilding the path from the ABSPATH constant, and it works!

My first bugfix, how thrilling :p

  14. Florent, I have the same mixture of slashes and backslashes here and it's working .. I have no idea why this is handled different in XAMPP .. ok .. anyway, this shouldn't happen on your webserver ..

    Open functions.php and change:

    load_theme_textdomain('thematic', ABSPATH . 'wp-content/themes/thematic/library/languages')

    to:

    load_theme_textdomain('thematic', 'D:\Web\CitizenPoulpe\www\wp-content\themes\thematic\library\languages')

Don't know how Wamp handles the different slashes .. If this doesn't work change all backslashes to forward-slashes.

Don't copy this to your website .. it's just a prove that your translation should work with the changes.

    Cheers,

    Chris

  17. Hello,

I have a very similar problem over here. I am using the German translation "de_DE" and it translates everything in German just fine (in the Thematic Frontend).

But when I edit the German de_DE.po – file and change a German translation like "Suchen" to "Finden" it doesn't show up in the frontend. It remains with the original translations.

I am Text Mate on Mac OS X and open + edit the files directly on my live web-server.

Do I need to change something in the .mo - files as well?
Do I need a different software to edit?
    Some caching problem?

Thanks a lot for the help!!!

    Cheers, Arne

    Hi Chris,
same problem here: I need to edit italian translation to change some terms but wordpress will keep original translation.
I tried either .mo or .po files
    Some suggestion?

    Thanks,

    Mario

  20. Sent the latest package to Ian. Should be released as Thematic 0.9.6.2 in a couple of days:

    o Fixed a bug in page.php not loading thematic_comments_template()
o Fixed missing gettext in comments-extensions.php
o Fixed French, German, Italian, Romanian, and Spanish language files

  21. @Chris: re: thematic_comments_template, does this mean we don't need to apply this modification in 0.9.6.2?

    Posted 9 years ago #
  22. No :)

    .. it's fixed.

    Hi Chris,

on working around customizing language files applied to page-link tag (<!--nextpage-->), in order to show pagination at page's bottom, I noticed that the text area of term 'Pages :' is very short.
I mean, let say, where I'd need to change from 'Pages :' to 'Continue :', the template will cut or hidden the last characters this way: 'Contin'.
I don't know if such a behaviour is an issue or if just in case next release will fix it but it's worth to ask it: is there a way to customize that text area longer as it's a variable because each language has its own number of characters or alternative synonymous terms?
I use Wp 286 with Thematics 0951.(no child template, I know you don't like that...:)..sorry)
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Mario

  24. Hi Mario,

as long as it is CSS only I can help you :)

Could you please drop a link to your blog?!

    Here's the link http://www.milanoleathergoods.com/ITA/catalogo-borse-in-pelle/prezzo-da-eur-15-a-eur-79

Chris, note that url above is related to my test site. It's uncomplete and fragmented as I use it just for running tests before to apply them to official site :)

You will see at the bottom left the use of 'page-link'. There I'm temporarily using the term 'Pagine' (italian translation of english term 'Pages') but I'd like to change it to other word (or words) that could express better my editorial need.
Unfortunately, as I wrote, it seems that in some style file (maybe you could know what style file will set the page-link's text area) the text area is set to few characters, so until I use the original italian language file it works (Pagine vs Pages) but if I should need to use another term with more characters than 'Pagine' (let say 'Continua' or a composite expression like 'Altra Pelletteria') it will result 'cut'.
    Thank you very much,

    Mario

  26. Mario,

did a quick test with Firebug and this is weird.

If I change the text for the first time after loading the page, the result will be cut. Changing it the second time without reloading the page will work. But that doesn't help you.

I'll rebuild the scenario this evening on my test server.

Btw.: Thematic 0.9.6.2 is available including the fixes for the comments part and the Italian language file :)

  27. @Chris: Thanks :)

  28. Mario,

it's working on my test server. Don't know what you changed in page.php. Especially now that it's working on your blog.

    Hi Chris,

I was just expecting your kindest replay so to explain what I've done in the meanwhile.

Basically I "played around" the problem instead of solving it.:)

I mean, I did not find how to give more free characters to text area of 'page-link tag' as I still ignore what style file will rule it, but I added this customized string to page.php (I translated it from italian to english to make it hopefully useful to other friends here in forum) :

    <div class="pagelink"><?php wp_link_pages('before=Look at more products of this price range: &after=. &pagelink=Page %') ?></div>

I don't think that's a solution to fit any kind of need, it's only an alternative expedient to solve my very personal problem as I'm an absolute newbie to html, php, scripts etc etc.:)

Anyway, I still not upgraded to latest release as I fear to loose all customizations.
Maybe it's time to create a child template.
Chris, is there an easy and quick way to 'save' my current theme as a child template so to give a definitive solution to future upgrades?

Said that, I need to thank you so much for all the time you reserved to my case.

    Best,

    Mario

    Hi,

I'm using wordpress vs.3.2.1 with Thematic the most recent version of Thematic. I put the language to fr_FR in the config file. I've changed some translated term names in the .po file but the changes don't show up. I've cleared my cache and refreshed my window but still the old wording shows up.

I've read this thread but it's old and the solutions don't seem to apply to my situation. For example I tried to change the French wording of the Post a Comment title and Email field in the comment form.

    Can someone help please.

    Thanks,
    Shan-tal
