Hi! I'm wondering if it's possible to create a link in the main navigation menu that does not lead to a page (i.e. exists for organizational purposes only).

This is best illustrated by the following example:

    • item 1
    • item 2
      • subitem 1
      • subitem 2
    • item 3
    • ....

Items 1 and 3 both have pages associated with them. However, item 2 is only there to organize the sub-items, so doesn't need its own page. Is it possible to make it so?

Thanks for any and all help!

  2. Hi

Using the new nav-menu function with WP 3.0 is the way to go.

  3. I suppose you have two options: either hard code the menu and replace it using functions.php or, as suggested by em hr, use the new custom menu feature.

The latter option looks possible if, in your example, you were to create a custom link called "item 2" and just enter "#" where you would enter "http://www...etc".

Add your existing sub menu items accordingly and that should do it.

My only gripe would be having an active link in your menu that doesn't go anywhere (and obviously the user's mouse pointer will indicate it as being a link).

Not sure if there is a way of doing this so the link is deactivated (jQuery perhaps but maybe this would be over egging it).

  4. OK scratch that - as long as you don't add anything to the "http://..." field you'll get an active button but it won't show up as a link when you hover over it.

In short: just read em hr's answer and ignore mine ;)

Thank you for the replies! Hopefully the 'demystified' article will shed some light on this. :)
