  1. Hi Guys

Can anyone help me please? I want to do something similar to the gallery theme but using pages. I actually want to take away most of the javascript before anyone goes whoops!

What I am hoping to be able to do is to do the same thing that gallery does in creating an image that relates to a page and displaying that as a link to the page. The idea is that the site gives you the chance to decide on whether you want 2 images across and 2 down or 3 images across and 3 down.

It is a bit hard to explain! But it is hopefully an easier design than the gallery one because it doesn't rely on dates etc. The site would look something like this:

    Header

    Page Page Page
    Page Page Page
    Page Page Page

    Footer

The word page denotes an image as a link to a page. The footer would contain your usual blog cats, etc.

    Thanks for any help.

  2. Hi Rich,

can't you just come up with a not so special support request? :-)

Are these pages all on the top-level? Or do I need to deal with sub-pages?

Is it home / index where the pages are listed?

    Cheers,

    Chris

  5. Hi Chris

The idea is that if you had sub-pages these would open when you click on the main page. i.e. The front page would be:

    Page Page Page
    etc...

So the first page has sub pages, the other two don't. When you click on page one you go to:

    Page Page Page again...

I got the idea looking at the gallery theme. It is brilliant but very blog based and I wondered whether it is possible to do the same for a more cms based site.

    Thanks.

  6. Just as an aside. Is it possible to do what gallery theme does but on top of assigning an image to the post you can also assign an image to a category.

So similar to the above and similar to Gallery theme, but an opening page might be to list categories as icons and then head to sub-cats as icons as well.

Is this as hard as doing it with pages please?

I think it might take a plugin being developed?

    Thanks

  7. Hi Rich,

found the solution for the page thing. Should have the first basic code latest on Wednesday evening. Solution is easier than I thought. Will do this one first. Still don't know if I can adapt this one for the category thing.

  10. This sounds interesting. I've been working on something similar that I think would work great for a photography web site. Instead of pages I'm working with posts, but it basically turns the entire site into a gallery.

  11. Chris Wallace created the Gallery Child theme for doing this with posts: Gallery 1.2 Released

This is used as a CSS Gallery but can be easily modified to a photo gallery website.

  12. Hi All

Chris has created a theme that does the above for pages and it is working well. But one of the things that fails for me anyway is that thumbnails are cropped rather than scaled. i.e. If the image is say 800 x 600 the thumbnail comes out at whatever you set (let's say 200px) x 150px which is no good for the image gallery. So you set thumbnails to always be 200 x 200. But what happens now is that instead of the whole image being resized to 200 x 200 and losing it's aspect ratio, it gets cropped to fit those sizes. Now I know the default cropping is usually fine but in this respect I wanted the default images to lose their aspect ration and althought hey will look funny to end up as a box showing the full image.

Does anyone know of a plugin that will make this possible please?

    Thanks

  13. I'm going to leech onto this topic, if I may.

Perhaps like the original poster, I am looking for a way to create a thumbnail index of a page's subpages. Ideally, I would enter a shortcode on a page that would display a gallery of thumbnails, one for each next-level subpage. I am supposing that the thumbnail image would need to be defined on each subpage via a custom field. Ideally the page title would be displayed along with the thumbnail and both link to the subpage.

If anyone is aware of a plugin that already does this or has basic thoughts on how to approach this, I'd much appreciate it!

  14. Never mind on my request - I was able to modify Kenny Lövrin's "Excerpts from children" plugin to achieve the desired result.
