    I am trying to display the number of comments in a post. But the count is not showing.

    All I get is the standard text "post a comment" but on posts that have comments, the comment count is not displaying.

    Any one have some suggestions to why not?

    Here is the code in question:

    // CNS order INDEX SIDEBAR
    function childtheme_override_postfooter() {

    global $id, $post;

    if ($post->post_type == 'page' && current_user_can('edit_posts')) { /* For logged-in "page" search results */
    $postfooter = '<div class="entry-utility">' . thematic_postfooter_posteditlink();
    $postfooter .= "</div><!-- .entry-utility -->\n";
    } elseif ($post->post_type == 'page') { /* For logged-out "page" search results */
    $postfooter = '';
    } else {
    if (is_single()) {
    $postfooter = '<ul class="entry-utility">' . thematic_postfooter_postcategory() . thematic_postfooter_posttags() . thematic_postfooter_postconnect();
    }
    else {
    $postfooter = '<ul class="entry-utility">' . '

  2. <img src="'.get_bloginfo('template_directory').'/library/images/icons/comment.gif" width="16" height="16" border="0" alt=""/> '.thematic_postfooter_postcomments() .'
  3. '. '<!-- AddThis Button BEGIN -->
    <div class="addthis_default_style">

  4. <img src="'.get_bloginfo('template_directory').'/library/images/icons/email.gif" width="16" height="16" border="0" alt="Email" /> E-mail
  5. <img src="'.get_bloginfo('template_directory').'/library/images/icons/facebook.gif" width="16" height="16" border="0" alt="Facebook" /> Facebook
  6. </div><script type="text/javascript" src="http://s7.addthis.com/js/250/addthis_widget.js#pubid=xa-4c4063035e552394"></script>
    <!-- AddThis Button END -->' .thematic_postfooter_postcategory();
    }
    $postfooter .= "<!-- .entry-utility -->\n";
    }

    // Put it on the screen
    echo apply_filters( 'thematic_postfooter', $postfooter ); // Filter to override default post footer
    }
