    Hi,

I'm using Thematic for my website, but (stupidly) didn't realise you should use Child Themes when adjusting coding etc. I have instead just been adjusting the original Thematic files (style.css, default.css).

My question: is there any way I can keep all my changes made so far, but switch them all over to a child theme so updates etc don't mess up the site?

Apologies for dunce-like question - any help much appreciated.

  2. Hi Harry,

the easiest but not the best way:

Copy default.css and style.css to your child theme's directory and change style.css as needed. Drawback .. you would miss possible future updates / fixes for default.css

The best but not the easiest way:

This can't be automated. You would need a tool that displays the changes of a file side by side. For Windows I'm using "SourceGear Diffmerge". You need to copy the selector plus the changes to your child theme's style.css.

Let me know if you need help with this. I can't do it for free. But it shouldn't cost you more than a few beer / espresso macchiato.

Thanks for your response. I've not actually made TOO many changes (I think/hope) so I guess I'll just try to do it manually...

    Cheers for the help...
