  1. Hello there. When I change the language in config file of a fresh installed clean thematic theme, the search box disappears. I'm new to language changes, but it seems to have worked just fine on other parts of the site which are now in spanish. But search box in sidebar is gone completely. What do I need to do?

  2. Which version of Thematic are you using?

  3. - Clean install (localhost) of Wordpress 3.0.1.
    - Using TwentyTen theme, I set define ('WPLANG', 'es_ES');
    - Checking home page -> Search box changes language. Search becomes Buscar.
    - Switch to Thematic theme (thematic. clean install without edits)
    - No searchbox on any page visible. (Also checked source and the form-tag is not in the HTML code anymore - it has been excluded.) Tried fr_FR and it_IT and same result - no searchbox.

I must be doing something wrong. Perhaps I'm missing something really obvious. This is my first time around when it comes to changing language.

Hmm.. something is wierd here, I get something that is a bit similar but so different that it makes me think its caused by something in the search of thematic. I am trying out a plugin called transposh translation filter (quite clever, it gives a google translation that you can edit and save). When I switch from english to, in this case swedish, the search dissapears. Happens with thematic but not for example with twenty ten.

  6. also i would upgrade your thematic... it may have been solved already. different issue, but i had conflicts w/ the search widget disappearing w/ thematic and the widget context plugin.

  7. Hello fellow swede, I may sit in Madrid but I sure am swedish. Yes interesting, and I agree that I believe it has something to do with Thematic and search.

@helgatheviking - upgrade to what version? is the latest version of thematic as far as I knew. That is the download available at
But I'll be the first to admit if I've missed something.

  8. Just discovered something weird. It has to do with Helgas comment to save the widget again. I changed to spanish, added the widget manually and it appears. If I switch back to english the widget is no longer installed, but as soon as I switch back to spanish again, it reappears in the admin area. Perhaps I am missing something crucial, yet fundamental with the widgets, but it appears you have uniquie widget configurations based on language setting - does that make sense to anyone? I'd love to get confirmation to figure out if I've learnt something, or if it's just a fluke that I got it working.

Anyway, for the sake of logging the issue. As soon as I went into the widget and manually added the search widget, (Now called Buscar cause I'm in Spanish), it worked. But the 'default' search widget that comes when you haven't touched anything after installing Thematic, that one does not show up.

I've come across the same problem. I have a clean install of Wordpress 3.0.1, the latest versions of Thematic and WPML (Wordpress Multi Language at

Search box shows up fine in the default language (English) but disappears in the secondary language (French). It doesn't matter where I put the search box widget. Everything else seems to be just fine.

Has anyone come across a reliable solution?

Do I need to add a 3rd-party search plugin to get it to work?

    Thanks in advance!

    BTW, Thematic rocks!
