slightly out of topic: image organization

hi all,
since i am here quite often and i have found loads of help from Vikings, Normans and other Germanen :) i dare to ask this--although it has nothing much to do with the framework:
how the hell do i get the pics from an image folder structure (by ftp) importet or sync-ed into the WP regular media library? it only gives the option "upload" folder and an additional date order.
i need to do: ../uploads/films/blu ; ../uploads/films/red ; etc.
i have tried the "Wordpress Flash Uploader" plug-in which perfectly serves what i am looking for but it is restricted to params in the php.ini which i cannot change (by provider restrictions).
any suggestion would be greatly appreciated because i have spend the better part of the last 2 days with futile searching.

resolved. found an elderly uploader plug-in "Add From Server" which does the trick--somehow. works under WP 3.04.
i don't seem to be the only one to have this problem. hope WP will come up with something soon.
