    I noticed the update of Thematic to 0.9 and like an obedient child, i hit on it. But my problems started as soon, much of my homepage settings were gone. I was able to correct many but there are still some glaring ones left -

    1. My Featured Content Gallery plugin is not working! it was doing fine wth the last version.

    2. My menu ( i had adapted Sareiodata's customization of changing menu to show category links ) is only showing a white strip.

    Last of all, do i need 0.9? does it have some critical changes, or can i just go back to my 0.8.1 and carry on? what am i losing here?

  2. 1. How are you implementing the plugin? Does it need a function call?

    2. Probably a CSS issue. We'd need to see a link. And you won't need any of the javascript from Cristi's example.

    3. There're some good bug fixes in this version.

  3. Featured Gallery Content is just called by:

    <?php include (ABSPATH . '/wp-content/plugins/featured-content-gallery/gallery.php'); ?>

    So there shouldn't be a problem with the Thematic 0.9 except if you add this line as an action to thematic_belowheader() .. in this case it'll destroy the whole page (content is completely blank).

    Anyway .. without knowing how and where you integrated the above mentioned line, we won't be able to help you.

    Cheers,

    Right Chris, besides putting the FCG folder in my plugin directory, I just added this line of code in my header within a div container, and it was working fine till i upgraded to 0.9 version

    <div id="gallery">
    <?php include (ABSPATH . '/wp-content/plugins/featured-content-gallery/gallery.php'); ?>
    </div><!-- #gallery -->

    Here, you can see the code as it is in my header.php.

    Sorry, as im testing my blog locally on my machine so am not able to give u a link.

    Secondly, have been able to work out the menu a little. I deleted the customized version of code and let the menu in 0.9 ver. work. But am not able to get rid of the white backgrounds at all. And i so want to put the category links there instead of the usual page links (about, home etc.)

  5. Mmh .. need to look into FCG .. if called in header section it'll destroy the html code .. Don't know why this happens.

    Posted 5 years ago #
  6. Getting closer .. just started isolating the problem within FCG .. but this will take approx. 1 - 2 more hours.

    Posted 5 years ago #
  7. I hate it .. testing the same stuff with dKret3 a completely different theme and it turns out that FCG has a problem with another plugin I'm running here. Deactivating all plugins except FCG will run FCG as expected .. the problem itself only occurs if FCG is called from the header.php.

    Some more details will follow.

  8. Ok .. here's the final result:

    All tests were done with Thematic 0.8.1, Thematic 0.9 and dKret3 (something completely different) .. the call for FCG was included into the header.php of each of the three themes. All my plugins except FCG were deactivated. And with all three themes I get a proper output created by FCG.

    Now .. here's the real problem .. I activated Platinum SEO Pack .. and the combination of the FCG call in the header and Platinum SEO will lead to an empty HTML code.

    As soon as you move the FCG call to the index.php (moved it below the menu) you'll get back a proper output created by FCG.

    Cheers,

    Chris

  9. One last information 'bout this .. Platinum SEO only causes the bug if "Rewrite Titles" is checked.

  11. Let me ask you one question .. While running Thematic 0.9 and FCG, do you get a blank screen? Or .. is it a white area with a black or grey border line (the area where the content of FCG should be)?

    A blank screen can be caused by another plugin interfering with FCG. Getting a white area with a borderline and the rest of your blog displayed correctly is caused by CSS settings (haven't looked into this one 'til now).

    No Chris, its just a black area and when i look it up in Firebug it shows the FCG script and div and all...pretty much there, except that it doesnt run. And the only other plugins i have installed are Wp-page navi and Wp-data backup. God, I'm backward by one week of effort!!

    Here is a link to screen capture - http://www.esnips.com/doc/dcda1b87-c9ec-425e-bcd2-f7a1fc89d8b8/FCG_prob -

    you can see the blue rectangle on left side below the logo - thats where the FCG was running smoothly till 0.9

    hope that helps you in helping mee!!

    thanks Chris,

  13. The featured content gallery uses mootools and it creates a conflict with jquery which is used in the dropdown menu. does anyone know of a good jquery plugin with similar features as the FCG?

  14. the static front page does not work for me with thematic 0.9. At www.bootcentrum.nl/redesign you can see an example. the front page displays posts and the >home< page displays the static homepage. dos anyone know how to fix this?

  15. @Him and @striking: I ran into the same problems with NextGEN Smooth Gallery. This plugin has an option to put the whole content (the gallery) into an iFrame. Without the option checked I had the same results like I had with FCG .. a frame, some CSS and no gallery .. The reports 'bout NextGEN Smooth Gallery and FCG are pretty much the same.

    If you check the iFrame option in NextGEN SG all problems are gone and you'll get a proper display .. My next step will be to check if FCG will run in an iFrame .. if it runs properly in an iFrame, I'll contact the developers and recommend to implement this option.

    Cheers,

    Chris

  16. Ok .. putting FCG into an iFrame prevents it from crashing my blog while SEO Platinum is up and redirecting the description tags. So far .. so promising. Still can't get a proper output, which is obvious if your looking into the NextGEN Smooth Gallery code. Need to create an iFrame aware gallery.php.

    Let's see what will happen.

  17. It's a kind of magic!

    Still can't believe it but I have the prove of concept up and running!

    With tons of script libraries in the <head> section, SEO Platinum Pack (bombing FCG before), FCG started in the header .. and it works!

    .. I love it!

    Cheers,

    Chris

    Wow! Chris, by and by you are turning into a magician for Thematic users. So, in the earlier post you said -
    "if you check the iFrame option in NextGEN SG all problems are gone and you'll get a proper display .."

    does that mean i can install NextGen gallery and and use iframe option and will do the trick??

    Or, do you have another solution for me up your sleeve?

  20. Hey Him,

    it depends on what you want to do.

    Featured Content Gallery is based on your content, you write an article in a certain category, add an picture and a thumbnail and FCG will display the picture, thumbnail and an excerpt of your article.

    NextGen Gallery is a pure picture gallery. You add pictures plus a description to a gallery and the thumbnails will be created automatically. NextGEN Smooth Gallery will display these pictures in a slideshow similar to FCG, but it's not based on your content (posts).

    And I still need to check how to get this thing into the header. Normally you would write a post and include something like [smooth=id:1;] into your post.

    To be honest .. I'm still waiting for the FCG developers to answer my email but I doubt that I'll get an answer.

    Cheers,

    Chris

    wooooo.... seems im still stuck without a solution! do you have any option for FCG, Chris?

    Posted 5 years ago #
  22. Hey Him,

    I haven't got any answer back from the FCG team. And for the moment I do not plan to write a YetAnotherFCG plugin.

    A working alternative is NextGEN Gallery with either the Image Rotator or the NextGEN Smooth Gallery. I saw that Mark used the Image Rotator (SWF) in this header section. And I did some tests with NextGEN Smooth Gallery in the header section.

    Cheers,

    Chris

  26. Hi Chris & all, I have been able to get the FCG gallery working on my homepage header no problem, but I'm not able to get the NextGen Smooth Gallery running at all on this page:

    http://dev.tech-answers.com/our-company/our-facilities/

    As you can see, there is space for the plugin, and if you view source you'll the gallery SHOULD be there with 2 images currently, but it just shows up blank. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    jlindo - you may have a plugin conflict (this is pretty common with NextGen)

    first, try disabling one and see if the other works.

  28. Smooth Gallery has a switch 'Use iFrame' or so .. this needs to be checked.
