  1. Sorry for asking again, but what's the status on the update? I am willing to stick it out with Thematic, although moving to theme hybrid gets more and more tempting as the days pass. I'd like to help move things along so let me know if I can do anything...

  2. wish i could tell you more. i thought that last week gene was going to launch the new site and push the update to the code review team, but i haven't heard from him since. i don't quite have the power to do any more myself.

    This IS exciting.

What can we expect Helga!? Exciting new bells and whistles with the new update?

I hope so. Thematic and the people who help out/work on it are great! :)

  4. nothing really new and exciting... the update was to get thematic up to par with latest theme review guidelines. personally, i hope it will be an end-of-the-line type of release and we can then focus on html5 and responsiveness (eventually) before we get left in the dust.

  5. +1 on the "end-of-the-line" release. :)

  6. Yea, I think responsive design is gonna be a major major thing once normal people realize how well it works/how awesome it is. I'm porting my site to a hybrid based responsive site atm and its awesome.

    Thanks all,

Assume the things we're hoping for thematic are along the lines of:

1: By responsive design assume we're talking about things like thematic being crafted to use W3C CSS3 media queries with fluid proportion-based grids and that sort of thing? How are people implementing the hybrid design (is this through additional CSS stylesheets for mobile / ipad etc or is it more complex?)

2: Assume the html 5 is going to rapidly expand with Microsoft announcing that they are now also automatically upgrading their web browsers through Windows updates. I think that means that Chrome, IE, FF, Safari are all pretty much html5 compliant so assume Thematic needs to be html5 ready?

Any idea if the above will happen soon?

  8. Proto, this probably won't happen for a while. Thematic will need to be rebuilt to use HTML 5...although it is possible to make the current Thematic responsive, it is not the proper way to do it.

BTW: I am going to try and submit some patches if I can. I have noticed a couple things that have bugged me. Does TortoiseSVN work with it? I use that but could switch to something else if needed

  9. wouldn't actually be that hard to switch to html5 i don't think.

middlesister has already toyed around w/ a plugin that switches thematic to use html5 components:

    https://github.com/middlesister/thematic-html5

the problem is there is a bit of a bottleneck at the top.... the guys w/ the keys to the kingdom (so to speak) don't have much time to spend on thematic.

there really isn't anything wrong w/ applying adaptive/responsive layouts to the current markup. <DIV> isn't suddenly invalid b/c HTML5 is around the corner. i still don't fully understand the benefit of html5 except that i realize it is coming and i should get on board.

i put together some sample responsive layouts for thematic a long time ago:
    https://github.com/helgatheviking/Thematic-Adaptive

they need updating, but they're a start.

@jagst3r15 - if you open an issue at the google code site, you can then attach a .diff file or a .patch file for gene to merge.
