Thematic workflow

  1. Hi there,

I'm new to Thematic and Wordpress theme development and I'm trying to get my head around a workflow. My usual process would be something like:

    - sketch design
    - mock up in photoshop
    - convert photoshop mock to html/css
    - insert PHP where necessary
    - sit back and admire handiwork

Now that I've started playing with Wordpress, I've just about got my head around tweaking existing themes, changing fonts and colours, changing backgrounds etc, but I can't quite make the leap from my own designs and sketches to a finished template. Something in the middle gets a little fuzzy for me - particularly in trying to understand how Thematic sits between my design and Wordpress.

(It's worth noting that css was never my strong point... ;)

    Specifically:

    - Am I right in thinking that if I want to create a layout that's significantly different from the defaults that Themeshaper offers (e.g. "2c-l-fixed.css"), I can just ignore the included layout css files and work with my own? For example, although I like centered layouts, I'd like to create a left-aligned layout...
    - Does anyone have a workflow for developing Thematic themes that's different from the one I've outlined above?

    Thanks!
