I set up one of my clients as editor for their wordpress site. which is still in process. He called last night for some direction on posting from his home. We walked through the changing password step. When I had him "Add a Post", he said that he got a message that IE was aborting and he could not post. I tried it on one of my home pc's, using IE (I usually use firefox) and came up with the same problem, even posting as an administrator. When I returned to firefox, everything worked fine. I've tried finding a resolution -- even someone posting that same problem on the wordpress forum and finding absolutely nothing. I wonder if it's a thematic issue. I haven't changed any of the default items for this website except through the child style.css.

The error message: "IE cannot open the Internet site http://www...wordpress/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=340&mesage=6. Operataion aborted."

    hi mate...

go back on your steps to try and help pinpoint the problem.

deactivate the childtheme and see if that help, if not then copy the child theme back to your pc and delete the copy on wordpress-check again, if still no luck , the do the same with thematic, removing it, and check again.

if one of these steps works then you know it's an issue with you theme.

if this doesn't work, it only takes a minute to re upload them

also try deactivating all your plugins

just do one step at a time and recheck to see if the problem is still there.

if still no luck then it must be wordpress, try upgrading if your not using the latest version.

let us know how you go.

Thanks for the response. I won't be able to go through these steps until Wednesday but will let you know how it goes. I'm using the most recent version of wordpress, but hopefully I won't have to go that far to find the issue.

  4. Hey,

before you start .. please check if IE displays a script error in the left bottom corner.

All reports I found were about strange things happening in all browsers with WP 2.6 and WP 2.7.1 beta. Nothing relates to IE only.

I looked into the core and as far as I understood the code, the changes made during the edit sessions are saved and WordPress redirects you back to the edit page. And there's nothing in this specific code that would cause IE to fail.

    Cheers,

    Chris

I did a little testing and have discovered that the error only occurs in Visual Mode. I'll follow your instructions Wednesday and let you know how it works. Thanks for your help.

Chris, I did check and in IE there is an error message in the lower left-hand corner. It just said (right after the yellow triangle) "Done, but with error on this page". When I tried to do anymore, it locked up and shows the message and "Operation aborted" pronouncement.

As you will see, we are in the building stage. The logo and colors are still being designed (not by me!)

  9. Seems to be OK .. checked if there're any weird scripts or script libraries loaded.

Get a fresh copy of WordPress, delete wp-admin and wp-includes from your host and transfer the fresh copy of WordPress to your host.

    Cheers,

    Chris

I'm extremely nervous about this process, so I wanted to verify my procedure first.

    1. Ensure that I have a copy of all my files before transferring a fresh copy of WordPress to my host.
    2. Delete wp-admin and wp-includes from my host.
    3. Install (transfer) a fresh copy of WordPress to my host.

Then here's what my mind can't wrap around: Do I then upload everything except wp-admin and wp-includes back to my host? The reason I assume I need to do this is because what happens to all the design, pages and blog posts that I already have on this site?

  11. Sorry .. was waiting for the server to come back .. ok .. drop step 2 .. just take the fresh copy of WordPress and copy it over to your host .. the important directories are wp-admin and wp-includes both with all included sub-directories .. the design, pages posts won't be affected .. you're not doing an INSTALL including the datbase setup

    Cheers,

    Chris

I'm going to do this later this afternoon (middle USA time) when I have good concentration time. Thanks again for your help. I'll either reset this issue to resolved or come back with another issue.
