  1. Last week I was looking for wordpress framework and my criterium was:
    1. Fast load < 5 seconds
    2. Validated
    3. Web site optimization
    4. Seo ready
    1. the page loads in 2,4 seconds,
    2. has got 7 validation errors,
    3. has got 7 css scripts which are bigger in size.
    4. Seo ready.

So I decided to go for hybrid theme or atahualpa.
I may be wrong to put importance to validation and website optimization and truly I am not skilled to judge. So depending on common sense better site without errors I missed your great theme.

  2. Hi vladimir-

As far as the validation issues go, the validation errors from the demo are related to the user added content of the posts (i.e. the Youtube embed tag) and have nothing to do with how the framework itself outputs html which is perfectly valid.

  3. Hi Vladimir,

in general there's nothing wrong with looking for validation and optimization as a first criteria.

    Validation Errors:
The 7 errors are caused by the way the youtube video is implemented. My blog is using the standard Thematic child theme, contains youtube and other videos, using a different plugin for video implementation, and is validating with W3C.

So .. Thematic itself is validating. And looking at the errors at, least for me it's pretty easy to judge whether these errors are coming from the theme or from the post itself.

The style.css splits into several CSS files for a better readability. You could copy & paste all modules into one file, or let a plugin do this work, or create a new one starting with a blank theme.

  4. Thanks for your swift response. As I see Chris your page is validated. I give it try.

  5. Hi Chris,
I'm new to all things Thematic so bear with me :)

In order to get into child-themes and where everything fits, I started of with the earlymorning child theme, and all seems to be going so far except for three things which all appear in IE6 (unfortunately I don't have IE7 or IE8, so I'm crossing my fingers on those!).

I don't want to hijack this thread completely, so will stick to the relevant topic, ie validation.

I'm getting 1 error due to a problem with an </ul> tag. The problem, I believe, is that the #secondary .aside ul is not being used and so no <li> tags are appearing in the HTML, but it is giving the <ul class="xoxo"></ul> tags, and this is causing a validation error.

I've tried doing a display: none on the #secondary .aside ul.xoxo but it doesn't remove it. The other solutions is making sure that an empty <li></li> appears within the #secondary .aside ul, but I'm not too sure how to achieve that and what effect it would have on a future changes to widget styles, etc.

Any way you know of to get this to validate (www(dot)weddingsax(dot)co(dot)uk)?

  6. Hi Tracy,

this is a glitch caused by the widget logic type plugins.

We are checking if there's a widget registered to the sidebar. If not, we won't echo the CSS markup for this sidebar.

Using one of these widget logic plugins, our function will report a registered widget. So we echo the CSS markup but the widget logic plugin prevents the widget output.

I'm still looking for a way to 'communicate' with these plugins.

The only way around this would be the current SVN copy of Thematic. With this version you can create a sidebar that displays on a certain page / post or whatever.

More 'bout this new feature: Something new 'bout widgetized areas
