  1. ... the files containing:

    #slideshow .widgetcontainer widget_slideshow

    #search .widgetcontainer widget_thematic_search

I used the Firefox add-on Web Developer, and "Inspect Element" on my site, to locate these line items, as it appears it might put me in the neighborhood I need, so that I can alter the box "cosmetics" (padding, dimensions, etc.) containing my NextGen Gallery "Portfolio Preview" and the Search form that comes with the "Gallery" child theme.

I've keyword searched the style.css, the functions.php and a few dozen other files in both the "Gallery" and "Thematic" folders without success.

  2. Just put your “cosmetics” in your childthemes style.css to override the default “cosmetics”.

  3. Hello again Manuel,

I'm a n00b to this, sorry ... I've tried experimenting with making changes to many different lines in my style.css without effect, any additional clues you could provide me please ?

    Thanks !!

  4. Sorry, my bad. I missed reading that this was partly about the Nextgen gallery, which stylesheet is called after the Thematic stylesheets (results in that it “overrules” your childthemes style.css).

So make your changes regarding the Nextgen slideshow at its stylesheet at /wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/css/Black_Minimalism.css.

But your searchform styles should still go in your childthemes style.css. Here’s an example which removes the search-button:

    .widget_thematic_search #searchform input#searchsubmit {

You just forgot to add the “I am a class, not an ID”-dot in front of the widget_thematic_search class, that’s why you saw no results. ;)

  5. Hi Manuel !

Nah its not the search form I'm having a problem with. Its getting the "search" button to move down/create more space below the "search" box/"enter your text here" box, AND getting the margin or padding spacing to change around the outside of both the "Search" box and the "Portfolio Preview" box.

I will think I've finally narrowed it down to a section in my css (I've tried both Gallery style.css & black_minimalism.css) and start changing numbers, but I swear I can get everything BUT the above mentioned to change, eeeeeeek !

  6. MG-
    #slideshow .widgetcontainer widget_slideshow , #search .widgetcontainer widget_thematic_search
are both dynamically generated attribute combinations, so you won't see them in any of the stylesheets because the didnt exist until you set up your "primary aside" sidebar the way that you did. No on..e could have seem those combination forming except you.

In your childtheme's style.css it may help for you to edit the margin and padding on these:

    .main-aside .xoxo li
    .main-aside h3

    and add and style these

Also try the firebug firefox plugin it's great for css debugging on the fly and a great companion to the web developer plugin.
