  1. Im trying to change my layout in such a way to make the content section about twice as big, and stay on the left side of the page.
Originally, I wanted to make it full screen, so I followed this tutorial:

But No matter how many times I tried it, it didn't work. Are there any guides (for a CSS and PHP beginner such as myself) to creating a custom layout?

  2. well that is exactly how to make a template. did you tell the page you were editing to use the new template you made (in the edit screen... or in the quick edit)

as devin pointed out to me in the comments (that's me Kathy) the css body class depends on what you've named your template file

template-fullpage.php produces the body class of :
    .page-template-template-fullpage-php

  3. Oh! I didn't realize I needed to go to the page section and set it. It's working now, I feel pretty dumb. But is there a way to use this on my main page?

  4. In your dash- settings>reading settings. set home page to an actual page versus 'show latest posts'. make sure that page has the appropriate template.
