  1. Hello, everyone. I was wondering if someone could help me with taking the content contained in the WordPress sidebar and putting it in the bottom of a page, the footer. I've always felt that having sidebars can distract users from the main content of a page and so I have been wanting to learn how to move that information elsewhere.

    I've already found stickies on adding header images and editing the WordPress menus. Now I just need a solution to the problem above and I think I'll be ready to experiment with Thematic and WordPress in general.

    Thanks to those who have taken time to read about my plight and especially to those who provide answers.

    Why not just not put any widgets on the sidebar and put them in the footer. If you want them gone for some other reason I can pos the code when I get home.

    function remove_widget_areas($content) {
    unset($content['Primary Aside']); // Replace With the title of the widget
    return $content;
    add_filter('thematic_widgetized_areas', 'remove_widget_areas');

  5. Thanks for the speedy reply.

    Just confirming, I place this in footer.php, right? I am still quite new to this...

    No. You wanna place the code above in your child themes function.php. Rule of thumb is to never modify the files in the thematic themes directory as they will be overwritten when the theme gets updated. if you need more explanation on child themes look at some of the getting started customizing thematic posts on the main site.

    you can put whatever widgets you want to use in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd subsidiary areas and they will all appear in the footer.
