    I'm new to thematic, and so far its been fantastic. But I'm trying to do something i'd imagine would be fairly basic, but I'm afraid I'm missing the obvious way

    I want to change the layout of front and archive pages so that the archive loop, rather than outputting:

    Title
    Meta
    Thumb
    Excerpt

    Becomes:

    Thumb
    Title
    Meta
    Excerpt

    My php is poor, but it's usually good enough to just move things around like this. But I simply can't see how to do this in content-extensions.php, although can find all the component bits spread over 200 lines of code. Any easy answers or hints anyone can point me to?

    Many thanks!

  2. i'd advise you not to make changes to content-extensions.php. we advocate making a child theme of thematic and making all your changes in your child's functions.php

    off the top of my head you could override the thematic_index_loop and the thematic_archive_loop to achieve the desired effect

    Thanks for quick response. I am using a child theme, but am still trying to find what to override! It seems to me that the order of these is set before thematic_index_loop, but my poor php and lack of familiarity with Thematic might be misleading me here. Most appreciated if you get a chance to look at this more closely for me

    Many thanks again

  4. well good. that's how you should be doing it! we get a lot of people who hack away in there

    look more closely at the thematic_index_loop() function

    // creating the post header
    thematic_postheader();

    is responsible for generating the title and the meta

    thematic_content();

    generates either the excerpt or the full post depending on whether you've changed it to be excerpts on the home page

    both of those functions are also defined in content-extensions so you can see them at work

    Yes, that's what I feared. Which seems to require a lot of overrides to achieve my very modest layout requirements - which is why I was hoping I was missing something obvious!

    I'm working on a nasty CSS hack for now, as I need to get this working ASAP.

    Do you think you could point me at where these functions are defined in content-extensions, as I haven't found my way around it properly yet. I'll have a look at pulling them completely apart to attempt a re-order.

    Though surely someone has wanted to do this before? It's a fairly standard index page layout - large thumbnail aligned left to headline, meta and teaser. If anyone has code for this already, would be enormously appreciated!

  6. there is no requirement that you have to use thematic_postheader() in your index loop?

    you can delete that out and use whatever you want.

    the_post_thumbnail();
    the_title();
    the_content();

    all valid WP functions.

    Of course! I'd got stuck into a Thematic way of thinking - that was the obvious I was missing. Many thanks!

  8. thematic gives you options... but it shouldn't lock you in to anything. glad you got it sorted. perhaps you could post your solution for future use?
