Child theme keeps on reverting back the original widgets

Hi guys
I have created a child theme and all works well except when I update thematic or activate a different theme and then activate my child (thematic) theme all the widgets revert back to the original thematic theme, i.e the search field, Pages, Blogroll etc...

I can I make sure updates and changes won't effect my child theme?

you could set default widgets for your child theme:

or you could use the widget saver plugin:
